My name is Clara, I am an artist, specialized in linocut, based in Jura (France).
After having tested sculpture, watercolor and then gouache, I discovered linocut. And since then, what was a hobby has quickly become an activity that I can no longer do without. I immediately loved the very complete side of this activity.
I appreciate each step of the creative process. From drawing, to lino carving, then printing. Each step requires precision, calm and concentration. Which for me is similar to meditation.
You have to feel the textures, listen to the sound of the ink, to transform a simple linoleum plate into a work of art.
I draw a lot of inspiration from Nature. Animals, flowers and insects are inexhaustible sources of inspiration for me
Linocut is a manual printing process that involves many steps.
Step 1: Drawing. I create a drawing based on my inspiration.
Step 2: I transfer the drawing onto a linoleum or rubber block.
Step 3: Using specialized carving tools, I carefully carve the design into the block.
Step 4: Once the drawing is complete, I apply an oil-based ink to the block using a roller.
Step 5: I carefully place a sheet of paper on top of the inked block and apply pressure using a wooden press. This transfers the ink from the raised areas onto the paper, creating the final print.
Step 6: Drying. This can take 1-2 weeks for oil-based ink.
Step 7: Each print is numbered and signed.
